At a portfolio review I was asked why I shoot street photography. But that is not an easy question to answer because my work does not really fit into what most photographers consider street photography.

I went into Boston the day after the marathon. Not to capture any of the carnage from the previous day, to capture the spirit of the city of Boston. I had a very good friend and some family who thought I was a little crazy doing this. But if I stayed home and did nothing, the terrorists would have had another check mark off in there win column.

Before Saturday, I have not shot anything in a very long time. I felt like a crack whore going though withdrawal. Like I have said before, shooting is very important to me. It brings balance to my life. I wish that I had a good excuse for not shooting anything but I do not. I have had been plenty of good opportunities to shoot, but I have had a lot more bad excuses for not shooting.

My wife asked me the other day, how do I do I know when I got the image that I was looking for. I had to think about this for a little while. Then I told her, “When I am one with my camera and my shutter makes a different kind of click when I release the shutter. ” Does this ever happen to you?
