Why I love photography

February 03, 2013 in Blog, Personal, personal work

The reason why I love photography is hard to explain.  I do have a day job/grownup job and  I am using my left brain all day.  All numbers; there is not much room to be creative.

When I am get home from work and I am tired, I love to take images as an escape.   This allows me to zone out everything else in my world.   At first I thought I was a going turn into a social outcast, living in a cabin in the woods all by myself but then I thought about what a lot of people that I now do to escape.  (Just the solitary ones)

  • Fishing
  • Running
  • Hiking
  • Bike Riding
  • Camping
  • Yoga

I am sure there are a lot more.  Yes some of these are done with other people but you are focused on what you are doing and feeling. (yoga is a perfect example of this)

Of course a lot of what I photograph is in black and white.  Why I do not know.  My grandfather did a lot of really nice black in white prints back in the day.  I am not sure if any of them still exist but I would love to see them.  (I do have a bunch of slides that I have to go thru one day)   He died before I was born.  I was honored by being named after him.  (middle name)

I am going to try and write so more but I am going to end this on a quote by Robert Frank.

Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize
the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.
